Bill's Sears Tractor Page
| Last year, I was using a Wizard
14 hp/42" cut riding mower to cut my yard. I had purchased it used the year
before when I moved into my new house. Within a year I had worn out the steering
gear and cracked the frame. Disgusted with the performance of my riding mower, I started searching for something a little tougher. My neighbor knew a guy who had a Sears Garden Tractor sitting in the barn and he was no longer using it. I went to see it and found an SS16 with a belly mower, a 3-point hitch, turning plow, cultivator and rolling box blade. He had bought everything new in 1973 and used it around his house and small garden. After dickering for a while, he solde me everything but the box blade for $400. A month later I bought the box blade for an additional $100. According to the previous owner, the engine quit after it got warm. He had worked on it some, even getting a new carburator. When I got it, I had to put the exhaust system back on, adjusted the points and the engine ran beautifully. |
